Mary Kay Ash (1918-2001) was an American businesswoman and founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics. Ash was inspired to start her own business after being mistreated in workplaces throughout her life. She particularly disliked how she was treated because of her gender. She finally quit her last job after seeing a man get a promotion over her. Ash started her own cosmetics line and in under a year, her cosmetics line was a cosmetics empire. In her first year, Ash made over $1 million. Ash nets over $3 billion currently, and her makeup company is the third-largest direct seller of skincare and cosmetics.
